Abstract in English
This dissertation presents the classification and characterization of Salvador city soils using the MCT Classification System, including the Altemative Method (Pastile) and the Methylene Blue Method. Pedological origin and MCT classification were found to be highly related. lt was also shown that the activity measured through methylene blue method was related to MCT classification system groups. Altemative Method has classified soils in the same group as MCT conventional Method, although some deviation has occured. Comparative analysis with Traditional Classification Methods have been carried out to get a better knowledge about the geotechnical properties of this soils to be used in design and construction. lnformation about Cation Change Capacity and Hidrogenionic Potential helped on results interpretation.
