Analysis of the hydrodynamic behaviour in a bubbling fluídized bed on a time-frequency plane

Abstract in English
Gas fluidized beds are characterised by the presence of heterogeneities known as bubbles. The existence of such bubbles is advantageous when they induce the rapid mixture of solids in the bed and high heat transfer rates. On the other side, inthe case of fluidized bed catalytic reactors, in which the solid particles are catalysis, the formation of bubbles deviates part of the reaction gas, reducing considerably the gas-solid reaction field. The knowledge of the hydrodynamic behaviourof the fluidized bed is of fundamental importance for the design of industrial plants involving such equipments. In this work an industrial scale reactor (0.5 x 0.5 x 1.8 m) was used to study the hydrodynamic behaviour of a bubbling fluidizedbed. Local pressure and capacitance measurements were analysed by joint time-frequency signal processing techniques, from which the macroscopic solid circulating patterns could be characterised
