Abstract in Portuguese
O presente trabalho propõe para cidades de pequeno e médio portes, uma metodologia de recolhimento de resíduos sólidos domiciliares recicláveis realizada pelos catadores (carrinheiros) e implantado como projeto-piloto na cidade de Pato Branco(PR). Foram realizados os balanços dos potenciais energéticos gastos para efetuar este sistema de coleta, bem como dos resíduos recolhidos, para que fosse determinada principalmente sua viabilidade energética. O projeto é proposto para ser desenvolvido em múltiplos estágios, envolvendo em primeira instância pesquisas com a população envolvida em um bairro-piloto, estudos e desenvolvimento de um programa de estruturação para a coleta, orientação e treinamento dos catadores e equipe de apoio para, em segunda instância, propor a implantação do projeto de forma que seja otimizado o sistema de recolhimento pelos catadores nos dias específicos. Como principais resultados, observou-se em relação ao sistema de coleta seletiva convencional efetuada por caminhões, uma grande vantagem tanto na eficiência de coleta, quanto nos gastos de energia para realizá-la, incorrendo a custos menores, desvinculação deste sistema ao órgão municipal e maiores ganhos econômicos para os catadores, sem considerar outros ganhos indiretos, quais sejam, ambientais, sociais e educativos. Como conclusão, observa-se a vantagem de organizar de um lado, os moradores a disporem seus resíduos recicláveis no dia e hora determinado para que, de outro lado, os catadores passem recolhendo, sem perderem muito tempo e sem precisarem deslocarem-se desnecessariamente ou em demasia para encherem seus carrinhos

Abstract in English
The present work suggests a methodology for gathenng recyclable donüciliary solid wastes in small and medium size cities, executed by garbage collectors and ímplemented as a pilot project in the city of Pato Branco (PR). It was possible to take stock of the energetic potential spent to carry out this system of gathering, as well as the gathered wastes in order to mainly determine its energetic viability. The project is designed to be developed in multiple stages starting with surveys of the involved population from a pilot neighborhood, studies and development of a structural program for collecting followed by orientation and training ofthe garbage collectors and supporting team. The next step is fhe proposal for the project implementation so that the garbage-collector system of collecting on specific days could be optmized. As main results, it was possible to observe a big advantage in relation to the conventional selective collect operated by trucks. Not only was it advantageous concerning the collect efficiency, but also in terms of energy expenditure to accomplish it, reduction of costs, disconnection of this system regarding the municipal body, and higher income for the garbage collectors. Besides these advantages, there are also indirect gains in relation to environment, society, and education. As a conclusion, it is understood that a bilateral sense of organization is profitable. On the one hand residents would lay their recyclable wastes out at predetermined hour and day so that, on the other hand, garbage collectors would gather them without losing time and moving unnecessarily to fill up their garbage carts.
