Title in Portuguese
Tratamento biológico de esgoto sanitário empregando reator aeróbio compartimentado
Keywords in Portuguese
Intumescimento filamentoso do lodo
lodos ativados
reator aeróbio compartimentado

Biological treatment of wastewater using aerobic compartmentalized reactor
Keywords in English
activated-sludge
aerobic compartmentalized reactor and bulking
Abstract in English
In wastewater treatment plants based on complete-mix activated-sludge, normally utilized even in Brazil such as in other countries in the treatment of wastewater, one of the principal operation problem is the phenomenon of bulking. Looking for get more knowledge about one potential altemative, to attenuate this problem, this research focused the employment of one aerobic compartmentalized reactor. The reactor utilized has built by acrylic, with total volume in 10 liters, distributed in four aerated compartments in series, foliowed by sedimentation. During the operation the hydraulic retention times was maintained in 12, 8 and 4 hours with middle sludge age of 10 and 20 days. It was analysed differents control parameters under differents conditions of flow ana siudge age. The best results obtained occurred in Phase 3: hydrauiic retention time of8 hours ana sludge age of 10 days. Under these operation conditions it was reached of BOD5 total removal of90 %, 83 % COD total removal, 75 % to filter COD and 97 % respectively to SS and VSS. Also was determinate the oxygen-uptake rates in each compartment. Samples of the suspended flocs were photographed and the microorganisms saw catalogued in accordance to the frequency of the appearance. The results obtained in this research showed the good performance of this system in treating wastewater and it was verified that even the high presence of the filamentous microorganisms, ao not affected negatively the sedimentation of the sludge
