É constante e permanente a geração de resíduos sólidos urbanos, independente do tamanho da cidade. Os problemas ambientais gerados, pela forma como os resíduos são dispostos e tratados, é que fazem a diferença. A preocupação da maior parte dos administradores municipais é a de coletar os resíduos domiciliares e a varrição das ruas, muitas vezes desconhecendo a forma e local onde os resíduos são dispostos. Isto ocorre porque as informações não estão ao alcance dos responsáveis pelo setor de limpeza urbana, seja pelas limitações de escolaridade e/ou pela falta de técnicos e especialistas que venham a contribuir para o correto gerenciamento dos resíduos sólidos urbanos. A coleta de informações para a realização do estudo apresentado requer o envolvimento e participação de um grande número de colaboradores, principalmente das prefeituras, que normalmente são as que realizam as atividades de limpeza nas cidades. Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo oferecer alternativas de metodologia, dentre das já existentes, para a caracterização dos resíduos sólidos urbanos e de serviços de saúde, para facilitar o planejamento e execução de um sistema de gerenciamento de resíduos para cidades de porte semelhante à cidade de Pato Branco - PR

It is constant and pemianent the generation ofurban solid wastes, independent of the size of the city. The generated environmental problems, for the fonn as the wastes are disposed and treated, it is that make the difFerence. The concern of most of the municipal administrators is the one of collecting the wastes household and the sweep of the streets, a lot of times ignoring the form and local where the wastes are disposed. This happens because the information are not within reach of the responsible persons for the section of urban cleaning, be for the limitations of scholar level for the technicians' lack and specialists that come to contribute for the correct management to the urban solid wastes.The collection of information for the accomplíshment of the presented study requests the involvement and particípation of a great number of collaborators, mainly of the municipal city halls, that are usually the ones that they accomplish the activities of cleaning in the cíties.This research has for objective to offer methodology alternatives, between of the already existent, for the characterization of the urban solid wastes and of services of health, to facilitate the planning and execution of a system of management of residues for load cities similar to the city of Pato Branco - PR.
