Title in Portuguese
Análise de confiabilidade estrutural à fadiga de risers rígidos.

Fadiga dos materiais

Abstract in English
The inherent statistic aspects related to loads due to lateral moored vessel movement and steel mechanical properties are investigated, in order to obtain reliable parameters to evaluate the long-term non-linear dynamics response of rigid risers, applied in oil exploration in marine environmental, as for the fatigue life analysis. The proposed approach involves the application of Advanced First-Order Second-Moment Method to stablish the fatigue failure probability. Two classical representation of steel fatigue strength are employed in order to define the failure probability: the SN and da/dN x K diagrams. With the applications of SN diagram, supposing an specific value for the structure operational life, it is evaluated the failure probability. Using the da /dN x K diagram it is possible to determine the flaw propagation probability, taking in view a given cyclic load, and, later, it is calculated the propagation time until the flaw length has reached a critical size that causes the structure brittle fracture. As part of the calculation procedure, it is proposed that the cyclic tension acting on the riser, obtained by integrating directly the equation of motion for a single flowline, is represented by a generalized gama function. Finally, an example of application is presented, for a rigid riser operating at Bacia de Campos, in a water depth of 1000m.
