Title in English
Hit-or-Miss transformations for gray level images
Abstract in English
The Hit-Or-Miss Transformation was one of the first Mathematical Morphology transformati- ons defined in the 602019s by Jean Serra en Georges Matheron. The most important utilizations of the transformation are pattern and object matching, thinning and skeletonization, etc. The operation takes two different structuring elements and has as objective to analyze at the same time the in- terior and the exterior of an object in an image. For binary images, it is a well-defined operation with important and known properties, mainly the fact that it is non-increasing with respect to the foreground and the background. This property prevents a direct extension for gray level images, as it occurs for increasing operators. The objectives of this work are to study some of the different extensions published so far of the Hit-Or-Miss transformation for the gray level case, the proposals for unification, relate the definitions and the unification proposals, and evaluate practical aspects of its application in real world problems.
