Abstract in English
The present thesis concentrates on the analysis of spatial relations in images. Two complex spatial relations are particularly analyzed: between and along. ln this context, we present mathematical defini- tions of the degree to which an object A is along an object B. We propose two approaches. The first one is based on the definition of the region between A and B provided by the concept of visibility. The second one was developed to reduce the computational complexity to calculate the region between two objects. lt is restricted to the 2D crisp case and it is directed by the convex hull. Experimental results corroborate the introduced measures. Therefore, the perceptual meaning of the relation along supports the model. Moreover, we show and discuss the use of the proposed techniques, including the application of the 2D and 3D spatial relation between in medical images segmentation.
