Esta pesquisa analisa as informações trazidas pelos livros didáticos de História de 5ª a 8ª série do ensino fundamental brasileiro, editados no período de 1985 a 2004, a respeito do Islã. Para isso, foram recolhidas as informações nos livros didáticos e comparadas com as trazidas pelas Fontes Islâmicas. Encontraram-se inúmeras divergências, que foram classificadas como factuais ou conceituais e analisadas. Verificou-se que algumas dessas divergências podem causar prejuízos ao processo de ensino/aprendizagem sobre o tema, por trazerem erros, cometerem equívocos ou por não zelarem pela linguagem utilizada, o que acabaria distorcendo certos fatos e levando à formação de preconceitos. Chamou-se a atenção, ainda, para o papel que o livro didático tem na vida do aluno e sobre a necessidade de cuidados na preparação desses livros, especialmente o de História

The objective of this work is to analyze didactic books on History adopted by high schools in Brazil (from grade 5 to 8). In order to do that, these didactic books, edited between 1985 and 2004 and that portray Islam in different ways, were compared with Islamic sources. Several differences, whether factual or conceptual, were analyzed. This research has found that some divergences may result in damage to the teaching/learning process when this subject is dealt with because these texts contain mistakes or because it does not pay attention to the language adopted, and this distorts some facts and causes prejudice. This work emphasizes the role of didactic books and the need of attention when editing a book, especially one about History
