Abstract in English
The first purpose of this work was the translation into Portuguese of a selection of short stories by the Russian writer Nadiéjda Téffi, written between the 1920s and 1930s, during her exile in Paris, featured in the collections "The small town", "Zigzag" and "The june book". From this point, it was possible to place and individualize the author's work within the context of the so-called Russian émigré literature, characterized, among other aspects, by the recurring themes of time, memory, and nostalgia within the community of Russian emigrants in Paris. In this process, efforts were made to identify and analyze the fundamental elements of Téffi's poetics, particularly the use of irony in the artistic representation of everyday life, employing a series of techniques: brevity in composition and economy in narrative devices and descriptions; the importance of subtext, with implicit ideas and suggestions; the predominance of colloquial language and the frequent portrayal of ordinary scenes, which initially create a sense of triviality in the reader. Finally, the main translation challenges are presented, primarily arising from the frequent use of Russian proverbs, original expressions resulting from the interaction between Russian and French languages, and the sonority qualities present in the source text, all of which need to be effectively conveyed in Portuguese. These challenges are intended to be addressed considering the theoretical foundations developed by notable figures in literary prose translation in Brazil, such as Boris Schnaiderman, Caetano Galindo and Paulo Henriques Britto
