Title in Portuguese
Método variacional aplicado à teoria de fólios: estudo do efeito solo.
Keywords in Portuguese
Efeito solo (Aerodinâmica)
Princípios varacionais (Aplicações)

Abstract in English
The lift and moment acting on a two dimensional foil, in the contexto of the potential theory, can be written as stationary values of well defined functionals. Therefore, the generalized forces can be evaluated in a direct way using a variational method and, as a consequence, the pressure field around the foil neednt to be obtained. Only a crude approximation for the potencial (erro of order delta) suffices to provide a better approximation for the lift and moment (error of order of the square of delta). The method was developed to a specific problem, a flat two-dimensional foil in ground effect. Its power was shown by comparing the numerical results with avaiable references.
