Abstract in English
This thesis aims to understand the experience of Biodanza from the phenomenological perspective. Biodanza is a living method created by chilean psychologist Rolando Toro, which intends to promote total health potential of individuals through group meetings with music and dance. Biodanza forms an alternative means of a persons integration with himself, with others and with Nature. My investigation evolved from shared living experience meetings with participants of a Biodanza group and interviews with the consequent investigation of the senses and meanings that emerge from the dancing. I have thus developed a certain knowledge that arose from my personal living experience, temporarily suspending preconceived ideas in order to better absorb and learn from the experience, in the same way as it reveals itself for the participants. Biodanza has shown three main aspects: 1) as an experience of body metamorphosis, during the dance the body changes with the forms that the dancer personality changes into; 2) as a form of creative expression of ones identity; 3) as an experience of alterity and otherness. These aspects extend the understanding to far beyond Biodanza therapeutic purposes, rather to an aesthetic meaning that within it proves essential. The conclusion is that Biodanza, as an activity fundamentally perceptive and creative, allowing participants to have a unique aesthetic experience in which they become authors of the process of existential (re)creation of their lives
